star in the making

meeting preview for sun aug 18, 2019

While some of the better bets on the day may include some maidens, the obvious highlight on the nine-race card is the Group 3 Committee's Prize, which looks a wide-open affair at the handicap conditions.

The feature mile (race 8) does lack depth though, with the three highest rated horses - ELITE INCINCIBLE, ELITE QUARTETO and BAHANA - all needing to improve on recent efforts.

There are three last start winners in the field and while MAKANANI and I'M INCREDIBLE will have to find something extra stepping up to group level, STAR EMPEROR won the Jumbo Jet over 1400m last start and given he carries the same weight (51kg), he must go close again.

Others to watch include KING LOUIS who comes of a good placing in the Derby and gets in well with just 51,5kg, while LOYALTY MAN placed in easier company last start and could improve again at his third start in Singapore.

Elsewhere on the card, we touched on the US-breeds penchant for the Poly on Friday night and a couple of maidens in INVISIBLE (race 1) and NOVA FACTOR (race 2) could improve at odds on the all-weather track.

Staying with maidens who can win, ST ALWYN tries his luck against Class 4 Company in the lucky last but he looks a handy enough type to think he is up to the task with 52kg and may be a good value option.

Best Bets: (LIM'S CRAFT race 5, win), (INVISIBLE race 1, value), and (ST ALWYN race 9, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 6 (1, 2, 7 and 8), race 7 (1, 4, 5 and 6), race 8 (6, 7 and 9), race 9 (1, 2, 4, 8 and 12).

Good luck and see you in the forum!

1 - INVISIBLE - US-bred maiden who has shown little over longer on the turf but gets blinkers and should improve lengths at first start in Class 5 with the Poly a factor.

5 - HERO STAR - Led before being swamped late in this class last start over 1200m. Should be prominent for a long way.

4 - ELENA OF AVALOR - Resuming after bleeding attack. Broke through two starts back in this grade over 1200m. Trial was solid and well drawn. Watch market.

2 - BEER GARDEN - Has had a change of stables. Showed speed at debut and led them up in the Golden Horseshoe before fading late. Has no weight and that form is good enough for this.

1 - NOVA FACTOR - Has struggled to date but bred for speed and recent trial good enough to show up in a race like this. Keep safe.

7 - QIJI DIAMOND - Only battled at debut from wide gate but gets blinkers and could improve from the ace on trail form.

race 3: class 4 (2) - 1200m course a (lc) (turf track) time: 14:10 prize money: s$50000

4 - STRAP MARKS - Won comfortably in this grade over 1200m last start. Claim offsets 3.5kg weight rise and should be hard to run down from good gate.

1 - ARARAT LADY - Held up and narrowly beaten when resuming. Has trialled since and with Michael Rodd hard to beat from the good gate.

5 - SALAMENCE - Won one of these three starts back and excuses not to finish in the mix last start. Right in this.

3 - MR ALFONSO - Freshened after disappointing effort last start when reported issues. Previous efforts strong and with 3kg claim from good gate will be prominent.

1 - LINCOLN MOONLIGHT - Had to battle with wide gates of late but due, gets blinkers and gets a chance with a handy 4kg claim.

1 - CAORUNN - Hasn't won for a long time but excuses last start and drops in grade. Claim and good gate may help. Improves at value.
