meeting preview for sun dec 9, 2018

It's been a long year and while everyone will be looking forward to a freshen up before racing continues in the New Year, the Group 3 Colonial Chief Stakes will keep punters interested until the very last races of the season.

Obviously there may be plenty of interest left in the Jockey Championship as well but the last feature of the year looks a beauty on paper and it may give trainer Lee Freedman the icing on his Premiership year with CIRCUIT LAND hard to beat.

The highest rated horse in the race, CIRCUIT LAND (114) is in best at the race conditions with 58kg and while he is having his first serious outing on the Poly, his Group 1 form in the Raffles, QEII and Gold Cup has to hold up in this field.

On the other hand, MAXIMUS loves the Poly, is also well in at the race conditions and could dominate again on the all-weather.

The 5YO US-bred gelding returned from an unsuccessful Korean raid with a top win over 1100m and given his best form at the top level is over the mile, he could be extremely hard to run down from gate 1.

And while the likes of NOVA STRIKE - who won this race last year - and McGREGOR will keep the pair honest, it may very well be a race in two and may the best (Poly) horse win.

Best Bets: (POET'S RYKER race 8, win), (MAXIMUS race 9, win) and (LARRY race 4, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (2, 5, 6 and 10), race 8 (1, 4, 5, 10 and 11), race 9 (2 and 8), race 10 (1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 11).

Good luck and see you in the forum!
