ricky times two

meeting preview for sun oct 14, 2018

After finishing second in the 2017 Premiership with an impressive 65 winners in his first season as a fully-fledged trainer, Ricardo Le Grange has had a frustrating 2018.

Some nice horses leaving the stable didn't help nor did a run of good form earlier in the year where Le Grange couldn't buy a winner for love or money.

But you can't keep a good man or stable down and the South African ex-pat will be hoping to knock in his fair share of winners late in the season and head into 2019 with a spring in his step.

Two horses that can help his cause are CAPTAIN JAMIE and PENNYWISE.

CAPTAIN JAMIE in particular looks well placed back in Kranji Stakes C Company (race 8) to get back into the winners circle with the Poly mile ideal.

The field does have depth and STAR EMPIRE and KEY SUCCESS have claims, but CAPTAIN JAMIE from gate 5 should get the favours and be hard to beat.

The exciting PENNYWISE could also be a good thing in race 9.

Yes, the only time he has tasted defeat in four career starts was at his only run on the turf, but he had excuses on that occasion and his work late in the Golden Horseshoe suggests he handles the surface and he could very well show them a clean pair of heels on the E Course.

Best Bets: (CAPTAIN JAMIE race 8, win), (PENNYWISE race 9, win) and (SHANGANI race 4, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (1, 4, 5, 7 and 8), race 8 (2), race 9 (4 and 10) and race 10 (1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 12).

Good luck and see you in the forum!

5 - SING ROULETTE - Returned lame last start after solid poly effort when resuming. Suited this class and distance, can lead and win.

4 - PAPERBACK TROOPER - Not far away at both outings since resuming. May find this easier and should get a good run throughout from gate 3.

1 - TURF BEAUTY - Form reads only fairly but looked to have some in hand last start and very much appreciates the company and Rood from a fair gate.

6 - STAR EMPIRE - Super honest and doesn't need to find much "Moor" to win with gate 3 a bonus.

race 9: class 3 - 1400m course e (sc) (turf track) time: 17:05 prize money: s$80000

4 - PENNYWISE - Very smart 3YO who had excuses at only turf run in the Golden Horseshoe and can win this.

10 - GALILEO'S APPROACH - Always a show in races like this and should go forward from gate 4. Each-way.

5 - ENCHANTED MISTER - Jockey suggested issues last start so could forgive but turf form remains a query so take on trust.

8 - BLACK QUAIL - Dead-set leader who had every covered bar the winner last start and can go one better on a course that suits.

1 - GREEN STAR - Form reads only fair but ran on super very late last start and drops to winning Class. Goes close if ridden forward.

12 - HOWL - Speedster who could very well try and pinch a race like this on the E Course and may be value.
