who's down for the count?

meeting preview for sun oct 22, 2017

One of the best days racing in Singapore with not only the running of the Group 1 Raffles Cup over 1800m, but the popular Group 3 El Dorado Classic as connections eye a start in the Dester Gold Cup in November.

Obviously the best horses will head to the WFA Raffles Cup and it's fitting that the two that head the ratings - DEBT COLLECTOR and COUNTOFMONTECRISTO - are both in very good form and could very well fight out the finish.

As a 4YO, COUNTOFMONTECRISTO gets a handy 1kg weight allowance and while that doesn't seem much on the grand scale of things, it could count for plenty when oxygen gets scarce with 50m to go.

He should look the winner at that stage too but the mighty DEBT COLLECTOR will be motoring late and can add another Raffles Cup to his impressive CV.

Oddly, the El Dorado at handicap conditions is the better guide for the Gold Cup with two of the last three winners of the iconic Group 1 coming through the Classic.

The winners are usually at the bottom end of the weight scale so the likes of MR FATKID, CHAIRMAN and MAGSTOCK on or about the minimum, all appeal.

Best Bets: (CAPTAIN JAMIE race 5, win), (SPEEDY PHOENIX race 6, win) and (MR EXCHEQUER race 10, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (1, 5, 8, 9, 11 and 12), race 8 (5, 6 and 8), race 9 (1, 2, 4 and 9) and race 10 (4 and 7).

Good luck and see you in the forum!

4 - MAJOR ADVANCEMENT - Had support and battled away in stronger company last start. Should be handy throughout and can be in the finish.

2 - LIM'S ARCHER - Had support but was caught wide and only battled last start. Previous effort good and with drop in grade and distance could improve for William Pike.

8 - SPECIAL RAIN - Battled away well last start from wide gate. This is easier and shorter trip suits but not helped by the gate.
